Frequently Asked Questions

Satellite Internet FAQ's

What equipment will be installed?

The installer will mount a satellite internet dish at an appropriate location that will function properly and be the least noticeable where possible. The customer?s preference carries the most weight in determining where the dish is located. Typically we can offer sidewall, roof, or ground mounts. Coax cable will be routed from the dish to the indoor terminal (modem). The modem will connect to the local area network.

Can I use the same dish that is used for my Directv or Dish Network for my internet?

No, we must install a separate or discrete antenna for your internet system. This is necessary due to the many possible satellites that any given site may point to at once.

What will the installation cost?

The standard installation is included with most purchase options. Scenarios that may result in additional charges are ground mounts, crawl space and attic access, networking, and custom cabling. These charges are at the discretion of the installer or Ext3 Networking. The installer will evaluate your site and present all options. It will then be up to the customer and the installer to determine the scope of the satellite internet installation. Our goal is always to present a standard install as an option when possible. Any additional installation costs cannot be assessed until the tech has been able to evaluate the site and speak with the customer. If there are questions while on site call 540-49-5012.

Can I use my X-Box online?

Due to the nature of satellite internet communications online games where low latency or ping times are necessary will not be supported. Only fast twitch gaming systems (X-Box, Playstation) are affected, all other online and web based interactive games will work just fine.

I have heard that I will loose service when it rains?

This is a myth that terrestrial service providers like to propagate in order to keep their customer attrition to a minimum. Satellite internet systems boast a 99.9% uptime. It is actually the phone and cable companies that suffer from low quality and extended outages particularly in areas where the infrastructure is aging.

I work from home can I use my company?s VPN?

Yes, you will however need to choose a HughesNet service plan ProPlus at 1.6Mbs or greater. This is necessary to support the additional overhead associated with tunneled protocols.

Can multiple computers be online at once?

With the addition of a router into your network there is no limit to the number of computers you can have on the internet simultaneously. Keep in mind however that your service plan is a finite amount of data capacity that will be shared by each machine that is on the internet. Your sales representative will discuss network specifics when you call to place your order.

Is there a limit to how much I can download?

All satellite internet providers must implement a mechanism to prevent abuse of the bandwidth by a few. The amount you can download is determined by your service plan. The limits are extremely reasonable and thru normal use of the internet this will never become an issue. The usage policies vary from provider to provider, please give us a call and we will be happy to explain this in more detail.

How do I get my rebate?
