To store data rationally means that it is in a normalized form. Incorporating normalization into database design means that data integrity is maintained. Not designing databases in this manner can lead to anomalous and corrupt information.

Our databases are typically built upon the ISAM table structure with mySQL as the database management system (DBMS). mySQL is an open source solution which reduces license cost and subsequently the overall project cost. Those saving are passed on to you as our customer. We know that your IT budget is a precious thing and efficiency paramount. In addition to the cost savings open source offers mySQL is also more stable. This stability is realized in the form of increased data integrity and greater query speeds over other DBMS's.

Ext3 Networking can also develop and maintain databases using MS Access in less demanding data environments. The licensing costs are greater than an open source solution but most offices already have MS Access licensing in place. Access databases take less time to develop and offer slightly less reporting options but are often a good solution for smaller offices and business as there is typically less overall cost and decreased performance is usually negligible. Access also comes with a built in application programming interface which allows us to build and deploy the user interface directly from Access. This is probably the most common database I find in use by small and home offices. Very seldom do I see an Access implementation based on sound database design principles. This will result in data loss and corruption. If you have an existing MS Access database let us evaluate it at no cost to you.
